The German CLIL concept and its implementation in German secondary schools (Gymnasium, Gesamtschule, Realschule, Berufsschule)
Topics: the German CLIL concept (=bilingual content teaching), the German CLIL concept in its historical context, different approaches to CLIL, secondary CLIL and teacher training in Germany, research on CLIL, foreign language teaching in German secondary schools in relation to CLIL, materials and materials development for CLIL, evaluation and assessment in CLIL.
Format: in the mornings visit to two secondary schools in Dortmund with bilingual content classes, one Gymnasium (Lyceum) and one Gesamtschule, lesson observation, discussion with teachers and headmasters. In the afternoons inputs from CLIL teachers, headmasters, university teachers and administrators from the ministry of education. Topics will include the role of headmasters and their responsibility for the implementation of CLIL in their schools: supporting training and professional development of their teachers, leading school organization, and supporting the learning processes of their students. Attention will also focus on the structure of the German school system with respect to CLIL.
A detailed program including the names of the German participants will be available in February.
Course language: the course language will be English. Participants should have an adequate level of English in order to fully benefit from the course. The course will be embedded in a learning platform with communication facilities. A tutor will be in charge of moderation and feedback.
